The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Computing course prepares you for employment both with specialist computing companies and generally in industry, commerce and public services. It provides a stimulating, vocationally-oriented programme of learning, enabling you to acquire the technical knowledge, skills and personal qualities necessary to meet the needs of a whole range of organisations employing computing experts.
The modules for this course have been designed to prepare you for employment in network management, system programming, application programming, PC support, hardware development/installation, website development, expert systems and object-oriented program development. Alternatively, you could progress on to the final year of one of the BSc (Hons) Degree courses offered by many Universities.
The first year of the course provides you with a good understanding of computer hardware and software systems, along with the everyday skills needed for working on computer-based projects.
In the second year students develop skills and knowledge in programming, databases, systems analysis and web development. The content of the modules has been designed after consultation with industry and employers to ensure that the areas of study are significant and relevant to their requirements
Even if you have few or no formal qualifications, you may be able to gain entry to the course if you have the required communication and learning skills as well as the knowledge, experience and motivation to succeed.
